FAQs
What do I need to bring?

The only things you need to bring are a workout attitude and the base layer kit if you have purchased a set from us. If you have not bought one, we have sets in all sizes that you can use.

What do I need to do before a session?

Eat a carbohydrate-rich meal 2 hours before your session or a carbohydrate snack one hour before. Make sure that you are adequately hydrated. Drink 500mls of water before, during, and immediately after each session.

What do I need to do after a session?

Rest! Do not do any strenuous activity after your EMS session. Walking (with or without a dog) is fine and even advisable. Ideally, wait until the third day to do any strength training. Moderate intensity cardio activity can be undertaken on the second day after your EMS session. If you regularly exercise three or more times per week, the EMS session should replace one of your regular sessions.  It is important not to overload your body.

Is it safe?
EMS training uses the same electrical stimuli that our bodies use naturally to make our muscles work but delivers it through external pads on the kit. There are some medical conditions which are not compatible with EMS training. You will therefore be asked to complete a health questionnaire before your first session.

Your safety is our number one priority. If EMS training would not be safe for you, we can create a personalised programme of traditional exercises for you in our gym, where you would work on a one-to-one basis with a fully qualified gym instructor.
When will I start seeing results?

This will depend on other factors such as diet and lifestyle as well as what other activities or exercise you undertake. Most people will notice minor differences after their first full session and a consistent improvement in strength after 6 to 8 weeks.

Do I really have to wear the base layers?
You will be provided with specialist base layers (shorts and t-shirt) that are constructed to maximise transmission of the electrical impulses.

We suggest that, for your own comfort, you wear nothing underneath these.

You may wear your own underwear (excluding underwired bras) if you wish, but it will get wet as the EMS suit is sprayed with water before you put it on. You should therefore bring spare underwear to put on after the session.
What do clients say about training at The Balance Zone?

After just a few sessions, I am amazed at how much energy I seem to have and I can definitely tell that my fitness, muscle condition and general health has improved.

Sue is a brilliant and encouraging trainer and the studio is so well set up and equipped that there is no excuse for anyone of any age not to give EMS a try! EMS is a highly effective, full body workout and, once you have got used to the sensation of having your muscles worked for you, you will probably want to increase the intensity levels to get even more benefit.

The routine involves moving quite quickly through a sequence of positions you either hold or move through. As my knees are not in the best shape, EMS is ideal as there is no impact exercise involved and, regardless of your condition, Sue tailors the 20 minute training to suit you and help build strength, support and balance where you need it.

I can highly recommend The Balance Zone to anyone who wants to get into better shape in the easiest way imaginable. I think you will find it addictive!

How long does an EMS session take?

The EMS programmes are 20 minutes long. Allowing time for changing before and after the programme, and in order not to be rushed, you will generally leave about 40 – 45 minutes after you arrive.

What if I don’t want to do EMS?

We have a well equipped gym and will be happy to work with you to develop a programme of exercise that suits you and that you will enjoy.

What should I wear on my feet?

For a gym session, please wear trainers that you only use indoors. You can change from your outdoor shoes in our changing room.
For an EMS session, you can choose to wear indoor trainers, non-slip socks, or bare feet – whichever you find most comfortable.

Is parking available?

Free parking is available on the driveway beside the entrance to The Balance Zone.

What changing facilities are available?

There is a changing room with toilet and wash basin.

Can I pay by card?

You can pay by card, cash, or bank transfer.
